Violence Against Women 2018

"In response to an invitation to participate in the Fitton Center for Creative Arts "25 - Human Rights" exhibit and inspired by Jackson Katz's work this series was created.

Women Helping Women & the YWCA Hamilton assisted me by putting a call out for women to come forward & share their stories of violence and abuse. I asked the women to write their stories and be photographed to produce this collection of moving images. By photographing the women from a dominant position and molding their stories onto their faces, very personal and emotional impact was created.  We thank the women for their bravery coming forward." - Audra J Shields
